This research project aims to examine how useful the themes of voice, agency and blame are for understanding victimhood in Northern Ireland, and how these themes map onto competing versions of imagined communities.

Objectives

  • Explore the construction and reproduction of victimhood using the themes of voice, agency, blame, and imagined community.
  • Use a two-fold research methodology to explore these themes. This will involve both a comprehensive multidisciplinary literature review and qualitative interviews
  • Produce and distribute a range of practical products and processes designed to assist victim organisations and policy makers in Northern Ireland. These are detailed on the Outputs page.
  • Engage in scholarly dissemination of the research findings through writing a book, journal articles, presenting at national and international conferences, and hosting a major academic/policy maker conference in Belfast.
