Cheryl is a Lecturer in Criminology in the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work at Queen’s University Belfast. She is currently seconded to The Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice, Queen’s University Belfast as a Senior Research Fellow. Cheryl’s research interests are in the fields of transitional justice, truth recovery, victims, ex-combatants and conflict transformation. Her monograph Truth, Denial and Transition: Northern Ireland and the Contested Past was published by the Routledge Transitional Justice Series in 2014.

Kieran is Professor of Law and Transitional Justice at the School of Law, Queens University Belfast. He is currently a Senior Research Fellow at The Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice, Queen’s University Belfast.
Kieran is a former Director of the Institute of Criminology and Criminal Justice and has written or edited six books and over fifty journal articles and scholarly book chapters on transitional justice related issues including prisoners, victims, amnesties, truth recovery and the role of lawyers. He has also conducted comparative research in over a dozen conflicted and transitional societies. Alongside this project he directs the Lawyers, Conflict and Transition project.

Lauren is a Research Fellow in the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work, currently based in the Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice. Lauren’s previous research has been interdisciplinary in nature, drawing on the fields of transitional justice, criminology, anthropology, and politics in particular.
Her research interests include ‘dealing with the past’ in Northern Ireland, ‘disappearances’ and transitional responses to ‘disappearing,’ the construction of victimhood, victim mobilisation, and themes of voice, silence, and memory. Lauren’s PhD research explored the response to the ‘disappearances’ that occurred during the conflict in Northern Ireland through a transitional justice lens.
