Dr Cheryl Lawther will be based at the University of Wyoming as a Simpson Visiting Scholar between 30 October and 8 November.
While in Wyoming, she will deliver a number of classes on transitional justice in Northern Ireland to undergraduate students in the Department of Political Science. She has also been invited to present a public lecture to students, staff and members of the local community.
The title of Dr. Lawther’s public lecture will be ‘Dealing with the Past: Truth, Transition and the Northern Ireland Case’. During her lecture, Dr. Lawther will consider how Northern Ireland has attempted to deal with the legacy of its past and will examine the major legacy initiatives including the Stormont House Agreement signed in December 2014.
The final part of the lecture will conclude with a consideration of the political generosity, ownership and responsibility that is required to effectively deal with the past in Northern Ireland.
