The project team visited the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) George Cross (GC) Memorial Garden in Belfast on 10th November 2016.
An RUC GC volunteer took the team on a tour of the garden, which contains a number of sculptures commemorating various aspects of the RUC’s history and a series of information boards detailing the history of policing in Northern Ireland. The team were particularly moved by the ‘Area of Peace’ in which the names of those police officers who died in service or who died as a result of Troubles-related violence when out of service are listed on a series of granite tablets.
